The Layers tool allows users to add additional point source layers to an indicator map for more context and insights. Users can view existing layers or create their own custom layer to share with the community.
Where to Find It
- The Layers tool is available on the Indicator Detail Page in the Location section.
- Look for the Map Tools menu and click Layers.
- This tool is always available. If no layers exist on your platform, the list will appear empty.
How to Use the Layers Tool
Viewing Existing Layers
- Click Layers in the Map Tools menu.
- A list of available layers will appear.
- Click a layer to add it to the map.
Adding a Custom Layer
Users can create and submit their own custom layer to the platform:
- Click Add a Custom Layer in the Layers tool.
- A pop-up map will appear showing the platform’s geographic boundaries.
- There are two options:
- Click the map to add a point.
- Click “Add a place” to enter details manually.
Adding Points
- After clicking the map, enter:
- Place Name (required)
- Address
- Notes
Using “Add a place”
- The Address field is required.
- Start typing an address and select one from the list.
- Once selected, save the point.
Finalize the Layer
- After saving all the points, add a Layer Name (e.g., Hospitals, Dialysis Centers, Parks).
- Users can export the map with the layer by clicking the Export button in the top-right corner.
- Note: The export creates an image of what you see on screen, so zoom in for the best view.
- Click Submit to send the layer for review.
Submit Form Details
- Enter:
- Layer Name
- Description
- Your Name
- Your Email Address
- Preferred Marker Color
- Click Save Layer to submit.
What Happens Next?
- The layer will be reviewed by an administrator.
- Once approved, it will appear in the Layers list for all users to access. Note: Layers must be approved by an administrator before they are accessible on indicator maps.
- This tool is designed to crowdsource community layers, so please submit layers!
